The first chapter of the University Charter School story was filled with dreams, hard-work, adversity, and success. The University of West Alabama graciously provided space for UCS as it was founded and began to flourish, however the need for a separate space was always on the horizon. The UCS Smith campus was completed and opened in the Fall of 2023. Housing grades 4 - 12, this state of the art facility has been a resource rich center for learning and growth.
As we look to the future of UCS, we envision all of our students under one roof, in one location, in a space that is conducive to scaling our rural, place-based model to help promote the success of other rural students in our region and beyond. So we must move to the next chapter in the journey, creating a much-needed demonstration school space for our PK-3 grades, and expanding our ability to provide hands-on, career focused, curriculum to our secondary students, allowing us to create more opportunities for rural students.
